Construction progress continues at Centrum Hubbard in River North, the 23-story, 193-unit residential tower in River North from Centrum Partners and Hirsch Associates Architects. 412 North Wells, on the other hand, the accompanying 9-story, 41,000-square-foot office building next to it, still redeems itself as a convenient material-staging site for the apartment tower construction. To be honest though, it’s easier to observe and keep tabs on one project at a time, don’t you think?

Crews are clearing the lot and prepping for the start of construction for Rafael Viñoly’s 1200 South Indiana

*** UPDATE: Crescent Heights, on its website, is calling this project One Grant Park. Let’s go with that then, at least for now. ***

The empty lot on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Roosevelt Road (or Indiana Avenue and Roosevelt, which coincides with the project address) is no longer idle.

On Wednesday of last week, the Sloopin Blog reported that neighbors had been told to expect construction to start this week on 1200 South Indiana, the 76-story rental tower from developer Crescent Heights. And sure enough, what remained of the concrete slabs has been scraped up, smoothed over, and crews are erecting safety fencing on the perimeter of the lot. Soon, foundation crews will start drilling massive caissons into the ground to support the 792 apartments atop 12 levels of parking within the Rafael Viñoly Architects design.

1200 South Indiana will be another big project for McHugh Construction, already busy at The Sinclair and Vista Tower.

Construction Update: One Bennett Park

The tower crane is up, so there’s no stopping One Bennett Park now. All Lendlease crews need to do now it use it to stack 69 stories on top of each other, and the Robert A.M. Stern-designed (I’m infatuated with the project they designed for 220 Central Park South, remember?) tower will be ready for move-in. Seems pretty simple, right?

A Night at The Sinclair

That wouldn’t be a bad movie title. But this is no more than a few photos of The Sinclair (the live Progress Cam is pretty cool) in the Gold Coast neighborhood, taken after dark. And as everyone knows, the only images that come close to the beauty of new construction on a sunny day are those taken when buildings are lit up at night.

Progress Update: 8 East Huron keeps climbing

You remember 8 East Huron. It’s a 26-story, 105-unit apartment tower being developed by CA Ventures in River North. 8 East Huron was designed by Valerio Dewalt Train Associates, and will include some ground-floor retail spaces, and also about 30 parking spaces, all wedged right up against the Consulate General of Ukraine at 10 East Huron. Clark Construction is on the build.

Alta Roosevelt, 801 South Financial Place, is done spreading out. Now it’s going skyward.

Get it? Because it’s called “Alta Roosevelt.” This is what happens with no editor to reel me in.

Alta Roosevelt is the 33-story apartment tower Wood Partners is building at 801 South Financial Place in the South Loop. Walsh Construction started hammering away at the foundations back in the spring, and now the Pappageorge Haymes Partners design sits six stories above the ground, with the core rising slightly higher. When all is said and done, Alta Roosevelt will contain 496 apartments and 348 parking spaces. No retail space, though.

3Eleven doesn’t have glass yet. Or does it?

You know that one guy who keeps showing up for work, so you find a job for him somewhere he can be on his own, out of the way, even though you don’t have anything for him to do? Meet the lone glass panel at 3Eleven in River North.

3Eleven has risen 8-10 stories high in River North, just enough to start rendering the parking garage next door obsolete for construction photos. And though it’s clearly too soon (or is it) to begin the curtain wall, there is one piece of glass securely fastened to the north wall. Some sort of place-holder, I presume.

You surely recall that 3Eleven is a development from the John Buck Company, featuring 25 stories of 245 apartments, and 3,000 square feet of retail space. There will also be parking, some for the apartments, and some set aside for the exclusive use of Assumption Catholic Church, from which the lot was purchased. The design is by FitzGerald Associates Architects; Power Construction is doing the heavy lifting.

Return to New York City: 220 Central Park South

No, I didn’t really return to New York City. That would be wishful thinking. I merely sorted through a few more photos that I actually managed to label properly, in order to put together a gallery focused on the new condo tower at 220 Central Park South in Midtown Manhattan.

Developer Vornado Realty Trust is building 116 units or so in two parts: One, an 18-story “villa” that fronts 59th Street, and a 79-story tower that unofficially fronts the north side of 58th Street. 220 Central Park South is a design by New York’s Robert A.M. Stern Architects, currently known around these parts for designing One Bennett Park in Streeterville.

Lendlease, also busy all over Chicago, is the general contractor.

Construction Progress: 1035 West Van Buren

1035 West Van Buren in the West Loop, colorful even on a gloomy day.

The 30-story, 300-unit apartment tower from Related Midwest at 1035 West Van Buren continues to show its true colors, all of them primary, alongside the Eisenhower Expressway in the West Loop. The blue, yellow, and red-covered construction site would have looked much better on a sunny day, but a quick check of the forecast shows it might be completed before we get more sunshine in Chicago. I’m afraid you’ll have to settle for the following photos from a dreary December afternoon.
