Took a train downtown this evening. Even lugged the tripod along with me, since it’s been almost forever since I’ve tried to take a night shot. And discovered that what little I knew about taking photographs, I’ve mostly forgotten. Couldn’t even tell that most of the shots were badly out of focus. Oh well.

The Bentham is happening.
We were getting worried about the empty lot at LaSalle and Erie in River North. It had been quite some time since the old Erie and LaSalle Body Shop had been demolished to make room for a new residential tower, but The Bentham’s website never went offline, a good sign of hope that the project was still alive.
Sedgwick Development is building this condominium tower, not only as the developer, but as the general contractor and designer as well. They got a tower crane permit way back in September of last year, and yesterday, a foundation permit was issued. That permit calls for 15 stories and 31 condos, plus 53 parking spots and 3,132 square feet of ground-floor retail space.
Congrats go out to Sedgwick Development. I bet they’re champing at the bit to get going.

Progress continues upward at Three Sixty West, the new condo development from Belgravia.
The only problem I can find with this building is that it’s right up against another structure to the east, so you can’t walk a 360 around it.
Growth galore in River North, where Three Sixty West, the 11-story condo tower from Belgravia Realty Group, has climbed to the seventh floor.
In the GREC Architects-designed building where there will soon be 38 brand-spankin-new condominiums, Maris Construction is more than halfway up in progress at 360 West Erie Street. What that could mean is we might see glass installation beginning soon.
June 6, 2018: The City of Chicago was kind enough to raise half of the Lake Street Bridge so I could get a good view of Wolf Point East.
It was there, so I stopped. Sue me.

The 17-story Home2 Suites in River North has grown to exactly 17 stories. And to top off that topping off, M.A. Mortenson has also started adding windows to the exterior. That means two things (at least): Interior work can start ramping up in earnest, and that tower crane will probably come down very soon.
An idle day at Wolf Point East.
Not Spire-abandoned, of course. But rainy-and-it’s-Saturday-so-there’s-no-good-reason-to-go-to-the-site abandoned. This was Wolf Point East over the weekend, when it was chilly, gloomy, and empty.

Is a tower crane still a tower crane if only the cab remains on the tower? I think not.
It was only November when Renelle on the River made news by erecting Chicago’s 60th tower crane of 2017. It took McHugh Construction and that tower crane just six months to erect the 18-story bKL Architecture design that will soon contain 50 of the city’s newest, nicest condominiums. last week, it came down.
Don’t worry though, there’s still a lot of work to be done here. Only one level of curtain wall has been installed so far, so we’ll have that to watch before all that’s left to do is interior work on those 50 condos.

Yep, we just shared two tweets with you. That’s because Renelle on the River celebrated two important milestones: The first pieces of glass, and the last piece of steel.
As you can see in the video shared by bKL Architecture principal Thomas Kerwin, the first level of cladding installation is underway on the bKL-designed tower. And McHugh Construction was kind enough to share with the world that Renelle’s steel has topped out. That means the next milestone will be the sad one, when the tower crane comes down. And then all that’s left for Renelle on the River to accomplish is to open those incredible condominiums to residents, and that’s expected to happen early in 2019.
56 West Huron glasses up the River North neighborhood.
56 West Huron, the 13-story, 10-unit condominium tower from Kiferbaum Development Group, has topped out in River North, and now Gilbane Building Company has started installing the curtain wall on the building’s exterior.
Designed by Studio Dwell, the tower will include 10 full-floor condominiums, plus one duplex penthouse unit topping them off. Completion is anticipated in Fall 2018.
