There’s glass on them there walls of 56 West Huron

56 West Huron May 2018

56 West Huron glasses up the River North neighborhood.

56 West Huron, the 13-story, 10-unit condominium tower from Kiferbaum Development Group, has topped out in River North, and now Gilbane Building Company has started installing the curtain wall on the building’s exterior.

Designed by Studio Dwell, the tower will include 10 full-floor condominiums, plus one duplex penthouse unit topping them off. Completion is anticipated in Fall 2018.

56 West Huron will do just fine without a tower crane, thank you very much

56 West Huron March 2018

56 West Huron rises in River North, sans tower crane.

I normally assume a 13-story residential tower will require the use of a tower crane. Eight stories is where I picture an imaginary line when a crane decision has to be made. So I expected months ago to see a permit come through for a tower crane foundation at 56 West Huron in River North. I’m still waiting; Gilbane Building Company, however, is not. They’re making great progress with a humble, albeit pretty & yellow, rolling crane.

56 West Huron is a project from Kiferbaum Development Group. Designed by Studio Dwell, the tower will include 10 full-floor condominiums, plus one duplex penthouse unit topping them off. Completion is anticipated in Fall 2018.

The following gallery includes progress photos taken this month, as well as in February, with the march photos first. Do not be confused; this tower is not being disassembled.

With Van Cleef crushed, 56 West Huron burrows in to River North

56 West Huron caissons

That’s a Revcon rig where Van Cleef salon used to be. 56 West Huron caissons are underway.

56 West Huron is now longer a former beauty salon; it’s now a future condominium building.

A quick check Monday morning to see about demolition progress of the former church building instead showed a Revcon caisson rig drilling into the soil. And that means 56 West Huron is officially underway.

The 13-story, 11-unit condominium tower from Kiferbaum Development Group got a building permit September 29, followed by the demolition permit on October 2.

The Studio Dwell-designed project boasts 10 3-bed/3.5-bath full-floor condos and one 4-bed/4.5-bath duplex penthouse. Each unit will have one parking space apiece. According to the 56 West Huron website (link above) condos begin at $1.375M, with one unit already sold.

Gilbane Building Company is the general contractor, tasked with having the tower open in Summer 2018. That’s coming up pretty quick.
