Hyde Park Labs (Harper Court Phase II) has gone 3-D in Hyde Park

Post-demolition, pre-construction for Hyde Park Labs at 5201 South Harper, 3/1/2023.

Made my first visit to Hyde Park Labs (at that link, click on “View Brochure” for everything you’ll ever want to know about Hyde Park Labs) at 5201 South Harper since this was still a fenced-off dirt lot waiting to get started. Well, not only has it started, but the crane’s in the air and the core has risen to — let’s call it the fifth floor. They’re going up to 13.

Let’s see if I have all the players correct on this project, the 2nd phase of Harper Court:

Trammell Crow Company and Beacon Capital Partners are the developers.
Elkus Manfredi Architects is the design architect.
Power Construction is the general contractor, with an assist from UJAMAA
Adjustable Concrete Construction is the concrete contractor.

Construction on Northwestern Medicine’s Irving Park healthcare facility ramps up

At 4445 West Irving Park, work on the parking-deck ramp is pun-derway.

The team of Power Construction and UJAMAA Construction have been hard at work getting the new Northwestern Medicine healthcare facility above street level at 4445 West Irving Park. This one’s only going up to four stories, as CannonDesign creation will top out relatively soon-ish, with just three more levels to go.

Beneath the surface, work for Northwestern Medicine at 4445 W. Irving Park continues

Ride the #80 bus past 4445 West Irving Park Road and you won’t see many new signs of construction on Northwestern Medicine’s 4-story facility. But get off the bus and take a peek into the abyss and you’ll see there’s a lot going on below street level. The block-long site still looks like a deep excavation, but not nearly as deep as the first visit back in April.

Compare those April photos to the gallery below, and you’ll see how far the tag-team of Power Construction and UJAMAA Construction has come on the CannonDesign facility.

Northwestern Medicine digs in at 4445 W Irving Park Road

Northwestern Medicine is putting up a four-story building at 4445 W Irving Park.

There’s a very large, very organized hole in the ground at 4445 West Irving Park Road in Irving Park. Soon, a new four-story building for Northwestern Medicine will rise from it, bringing medical offices and lots of parking.

Power Construction is on the build, with an assist from UJAMAA Construction. CannonDesign is the design architect.

Currently, this is Chicago’s northernmost and westernmost tower crane.

The tower crane adding a third building to the Edith Spurlock Sampson Apartments has come down, not before I snapped an iPhone shot from a passing Brown Line train, but before I got to the site on foot. There remains a lot of work to be done though, so I still got to see construction.

Leopardo Companies, in a joint venture with Ujamaa Construction, is the general contractor on a six-story building between the CHA’s two existing pieces of the complex. The new middle tower, designed by RATIO Architects, will bring 80 apartments and two floors of amenities.

Triple-Branded Hilton McCormick Place missed milestones: Topping out, glassing up

McHugh Constructions Hilton, Hilton & Hilton has grown to 22 stories at 123 East Cermak Road.

It’s been longer than I realized since we’ve walked around the Triple-Branded Hilton Hotels that McHugh Construction and UJAMAA is building at McCormick Place. Not only are there seven floors all glassed in, but the tower appears to have reached the 22nd floor. And it looks topped out. The permit called for 22 stories, but other specifications show 21 and 23 floors. Guess what? If this is a future 22-story hotel, and construction has indeed reached the 22nd floor, then by golly, she’s topped out.

Expect a skybridge to shoot out of here soon.

One thing not added is the skybridge over Indiana Avenue that will connect the hotel to McCormick Place, but you can see where it will attach on the south corner of the east elevation.

Antunovich Associates designed the 466-room hotel, situated on Cermak between Michigan and Indiana Avenues. It is expected to open late in 2018.
