Construction Progress: Addison & Clark in Lake View

Addison Clark February 2018

Power Construction has topped out Addison & Clark in Lake View.

M&R Development and Bucksbaum Retail Properties are the co-developers of Addison & Clark, the sprawling mixed-use project next to Wrigley Field bringing 148 apartments and 146,000 square feet of retail space to Lake View. Power Construction is the general contractor, and they’ve topped out the eight floors in total. The SCB design involves parking for 400+ cars, which will be used not only by Addison & Clark residents, but also shoppers, diners, and baseball fans.

180 North Ada begins construction along the Lake Street elevated tracks

180 North Ada

180 North Ada, seen here from a Green Line train, has begun digging in to the West Loop.

Yesterday in this very space, we talked about the two walls of development going up on either side of the CTA’s elevated tracks along Lake Street in the West Loop. That development isn’t going to slow any time soon.

One project that’s just getting started is 180 North Ada. Approved by the Chicago Plan Commission back in August, 180 North Ada got its first building permit on December 18, 2017. That permit allows for the foundation through Level 2 of a “14-story, 263-unit apartment building with 148 parking spaces.” The permit doesn’t mention retail space, but that was included in the August approval.

Foundation work is precisely what’s happening now, as Revcon has their big red rigs on site, drilling into the earth. When they’re done, Power Construction (very busy in the West Loop, with the Hoxton Chicago, 900 West, and 811 Fulton all in progress) will set about the task of sending the Marquette Companies development upward. The tower crane permit issued February 9 will help facilitate that growth.

Neighbors of the West Loop posted about 180 North Ada back in April. You can see their information, including a rendering from design firm Brininstool + Lynch, at the link here.

Power Construction brings the pane to (a topped out?) 900 West

900 West

The green & glass of home at 900 West.

What stands out to you more at 900 West in the West Loop, the fresh glass? or the green insulation?

There’s no wrong answer here, as both features are rather striking. We suggest putting your sunglasses on if you plan to drive across Washington Boulevard any time soon.

Power Construction has been working on Taris Real Estate’s 10-story, 22-unit condominium tower since the foundation permit was issued back in July 2017. Designed by Northworks Architects + Planners, the building was the subject of a major transaction back in May, when Crain’s reported a penthouse sale for over $5 million.

Essex on the Park enters the Roaring Twenties

Essex on the Park February 2018

Floor markings on the skip show Essex on the Park progress has reached beyond the 20th floor.

Stories, that is. The 20s of the eventual 56 stories to which Essex on the Park will rise.

Power Construction has the new apartment tower at 808 South Michigan Avenue up to the 26th-or-so floor. We know this because level numbers can be seen on the “skip” hoist at the front of the site. That’s an ideal way for us looky-lous to track height progress. It also means Power is dangerously close to the half-way point of Hartshorne Plunkard Associates’ 56-story design.

Even if The Blog never returns, I’ll live in infamy on Google Maps

Google Maps Hoxton State and Green

It was Tower Crane Assembly Day at the Hoxton Chicago Hotel in the West Loop. After watching for awhile, I headed elsewhere around town, as I normally did on a busy walking day. I saw the Google car drive by and waved. I’ve been waiting for the map update ever since. And here it is. Famous.

Even at night, 465 North Park is still topped out

Because it’s tradition in some parts of the world — a tradition I just invented — to celebrate the topping out of a building three times, here are more photos of the newly-topped 465 North Park. This time, taken on a gorgeous Chicago fall evening that felt like spring. Enjoy.

The view of 900 West progress from EarthCam Monday evening.

Already up to the underside of the seventh floor, Power Construction continues to make quick work of 900 West, the 10-story condominium building from Taris Real Estate coming to the West Loop.

Sure, there’s a photo gallery, because I needed the exercise. But remember that you can keep with progress from the comfort of your easychair via EarthCam on the 900 West website.

The sunny day 465 North Park deserves as it celebrates topping out

Yesterday, we shared topping-out news at 465 North Park in Streeterville. Sad thing is, that news was accompanied by a gallery full of dreary-day photos. We think 465 North Park deserves to bask in better light, and Thursday provided that for us. So, without further ado, here’s the photo gallery the new tower deserves, from a sunny, gorgeous Chicago fall day.

The top of 465 North Park, now topped out.

A Facebook post back on November 18 from Pappageorge Haymes Partners announced the topping out of 465 North Park, the 48-story apartment tower from Jupiter Realty.

Power Construction began work on the Streeterville tower in earnest back in July of 2016, then planted the soon-to-come-down tower crane in September. It was such a big deal, the alderman posed with.

465 North Park replaced an empty lot at Illinois Street and Park Drive, directly across the street from the AMC River East theaters. Its development is a win for everyone, because we all need a place to live, and no one wants to preserve empty lots. With 444 apartments that will open in 2018, the tower includes a sky lounge on the 38th floor, an outdoor pool deck, and every other creature comforts renters have come to expect from new construction in Chicago.

So, congratulations to the 465 North Park team of Jupiter Realty, Pappageorge Haymes Partners, and Power Construction, for reaching new heights at 465 North Park!
