Home2 Suites River North will be a 17-story hotel being developed by Akara Partners and designed by NORR. M.A. Mortenson Company is in town from Wisconsin to erect the 200-or-so-room tower at 110 West Huron Street in River North, and it looks like they’re just two or three levels from topping out. This is Mortenson’s one and only tower crane on our list.
Vista Tower rises in Lakeshore East under the watchful eye of the topped-out One Bennett Park.
I know you just saw a ton of Vista Tower photos only a few days ago, but that was about the new curtain wall being installed on the exterior. We got lucky and were in Lakeshore East when the sun was out last week, and Vista was irresistible. So here you go.

Can you handle another bit of window news in the West Loop? Well, brace yourself anyway. Because if you’re going to build all this new stuff, and you want people (especially hotel guests) to be able to the outdoors from inside, then you better have windows. Lots of them.
The Hoxton Chicago hotel in the West Loop has reached that step in its development. Not the usual curtain-wall style glass you might find on an office tower, but real, honest-to-goodness panes of glass have started to appear on the exterior.
Whether the Hoxton Chicago has topped out is a legitimate question, but that certainly appears to be the upper-most floor that Power Construction is working on.
Good glazes!! That’s glass on Vista Tower!
You’ve waited a long time for this. We all have. And now, it’s happening.
Vista Tower has glass.
Not lots of glass. Not big sheets of glass. Just little bits of glass. Almost slivers of it. But it’s still glass. Windows. Cladding. Curtain wall. Whatever you want to call it, it’s here. And it’s glorious to think how this tower will look once it’s entirely glazed.
I thought you might like to see it, so I took some photos.
As it approaches its ultimate 30-story height, the two Hilton Hotels at 1101 South Wabash Avenue has added four levels of curtain wall above the parking podium. The combination Hilton Homewood Suites and Hilton Garden Inn tower is now expected to open with 342 rooms.

Lendlease continues upward on the Hilton Homewood Suites/Hilton Garden Inn in the South Loop.
That’s not just a hotel Lendlease is building at 1101 South Wabash Avenue in the South Loop; it’s two hotels. The combination Hilton Homewood Suites and Hilton Garden Inn got started last winter, and is at, or near, the half-way point of its 30-story goal. Two architecture firms, Lothan Van Hook DeStefano Architecture and Pappageorge Haymes Partners, were involved in the design, one for each hotel segment.

We’re long overdue for a few shots of the progress McHugh Construction is making at Vista Tower. This thing has grown like mad since our last visit. Sorry to have missed so much. Without further ado, here are the latest shots from the soon-to-be 94-story hotel-and-residential combination.

Night time is the right time to see Vista Tower.
This thing is gonna be HUGE.
Vista Tower continues its climb along East Wacker Drive and the Chicago River. And the more it grows, the more it’s visible from new vantage points. For instance, you can now stand on the Chicago Riverwalk and look straight up and see construction. It may be a little too cold to stand there for long, though.
Fresh glass at the aLoft Chicago Mag Mile in Streeterville.
Don’t look now (you can look when we get to the photo gallery) but Tishman has the *aLoft Chicago Mag Mile nearing the top (on or about the 15th floor, I’d say) of its 18-story goal at 243 East Ontario in Streeterville. And as if that wouldn’t be enough of a milestone, they’ve also started installing glass, on level 3 of the Valerio Dewalt Train-designed hotel.
When completed next winter, the aLoft Chicago Mag Mile will open 336 new guest rooms to Chicago’s most vibrant shopping neighborhood.
