Tank and tower in the West Loop

I like construction. I like Chicago Water Tanks. So it made me slightly giddy to see 727 West Madison lined up perfectly with the delightful water tank atop Morgan Mfg at 401 North Morgan Street in the West Loop. I thought I’d share it.

A June look at The Paragon Chicago’s progress in the South Loop

The Paragon Chicago June 2018

You can see where the next “split” in the curtain wall will be on The Paragon Chicago.

It looks like The Paragon Chicago is up to the 32nd floor or so. That’s not quite three-quarters of the way to the top, which is fine by me. The Paragon continues to be one of Chicago’s prettiest under-construction towers, so hurrying to that 47th floor isn’t something I need The Big Green W to do.

A friendly reminder that The Paragon is a joint effort by Murphy Development Group and CIM Group. The SCB design will deliver 500 new units to the South Loop upon its opening next spring.

A topped-out 727 West Madison dresses up the parking podium

That’s the top of the topped-out 727 West Madison in the West Loop.

If it seems like 727 West Madison hasn’t gotten any taller the past few days, it’s for good reason: The 44-story apartment tower by FitzGerald has topped out. Lendlease accomplished the feat some time during the end of May.

You might also have noticed the parking podium is wearing a new outfit. Panels have been added on the south facade to help disguise the parking portion of the building. And it’s a good look.

A sunny day at 727 West Madison

This is still a fun building to watch, even though the B.U.C. HQ is no longer across the Kennedy. This FitzGerald-designed apartment tower for Fifield Companies and F&F Realty will rise to 44 floors before all is said and done. That’s Lendlease out there doing the heavy lifting.

727 West Madison will deliver 492 new apartments with 375 parking spaces to the Greektown section of the West Loop. The tower will share amenities with the Crowne Plaza Hotel next door, upon whose former parking lot its being erected. It is expected to open late in 2018.

The Paragon Chicago continues its gain of height, glass

The Paragon Chicago April 2018

The glassy, sunny Paragon Chicago is growing into its lot at 1326 South Michigan Avenue in the South Loop.

Few of the city’s construction sites bask in the sunlight quite like The Paragon Chicago.

Walsh Construction continues to make upward progress on the future 47-story apartment tower by Solomon Cordwell Buenz. The joint effort by Murphy Development Group and CIM Group will deliver 500 new units to the South Loop upon its opening next spring.

After 18 months of labor, the tower crane comes down at 465 North Park

A year and a half after being put into service above Streeterville, the tower crane at 465 North Park came down last week. Power Construction used it to erect the 48-story, 444-unit apartment tower by Pappageorge Haymes Partners for Jupiter Realty, but with the exterior topped out and glazed, it’s time to concentrate on getting interiors ready for the anticipated opening later this year.

You can reminisce about tower crane assembly at this link, then check out the gallery of the crane coming down below.

1326 South Michigan gets some glass, and a name change. Say hello to The Paragon Chicago!

The Paragon Chicago, 1326 South Michigan Avenue

There’s a gorgeous new rendering of The Paragon Chicago at theparagonchicago.com

1326 South Michigan is now The Paragon Chicago!

That news was delivered to us this evening by Murphy Development Group, which hinted about a name change for the SCB-designed tower way back in August, then kept us in suspense until now. This was the second big news we got Thursday about 1326 South Michigan, the first being the discovery of all that new glass on the front facade.

That glass, plus the height the core has risen to, proves Walsh Construction has been busy in the South Loop this winter. The 47-story Paragon Chicago, a co-development from Murphy and CIM Group, will deliver 500 luxury apartments to the neighborhood. “Luxury” means you should expect all the high-end amenities today’s rental construction demands, including an outdoor deck with swimming pool, a dog park, fitness center, cabanas, grill stations, and a library. The 47th floor will also include a fitness center overlooking Lake Michigan, and an entertainment room.

You’re going to have to wait a little while before moving your stuff in though; The Paragon Chicago is slated for a Spring 2019 opening. Be patient though; it sure looks like it will be worth the wait.

Now, let’s get you some photos, from a very foggy Chicago morning, of what The Big Green W has been doing these last few months…

Stay glassy, West Loop: 727 West Madison rises and shines in Greektown

727 West Madison February 2018

Old Glory waves triumphantly at the foot of 727 West Madison in the West Loop.

It’s only reached about half of its eventual height, and already 727 West Madison is cutting quite a figure along the Kennedy Expressway in Greektown. The FitzGerald-designed apartment tower, like most under-construction skyscrapers, is best seen on a sunny day, and that was the case on Tuesday when we strolled over to the West Loop for a peek.
