633 South LaSalle (at long last) puts up a tower crane and rises out of the ground [Corrected]

633 South LaSalle has avoided a forced vacation to Spireville and is now underway in the Printers Row area of the South Loop. The tower crane is up, the core has gone 3-D, and any and all delays — pandemic-related or otherwise — are a thing of the past. Thrilled and relieved to see this one get going.

This will be an 18-story co-living development, consisting of 117 units and 381 beds. Why co-living in the South Loop? Students. Roosevelt University, Columbia College, DePaul, East-West University, etc. Lots of kids need lots of places to stay.

Tip o’the cap to Chicago Cityscape for letting me know the tower crane was up.

Arthur on Aberdeen apartment development is topped out in the West Loop

363 units are coming to LG Group’s Arthur on Aberdeen (210 North Aberdeen)

Last week, LG Group announced the topping out of Arthur on Aberdeen, the 19-story, 363-unit apartment building in Chicago’s West Loop. So last week, I took a 360-degree walk around the site for a look at progress from GC Power Construction and CC (concrete contractor) McHugh Concrete.

Congrats to the entire team, including design-architect NORR, and the topping out of a great-looking building on a sunny day.

Coppia apartment building is beginning to rise at 1101 West Van Buren

Coppia, a 19-story, 298-unit residential tower from developer Pizzuti, broke ground early this year at 1101 West Van Buren Street in the West Loop. The apartment project fills in one of the few remaining spaces along the north side of the Eisenhower Expressway as you head west out of town. Design architect Goettsch Partners and general contractor Power Construction are part of Pizzuti’s team on this one.

caissons on 12/22/20022
the construction hoist on 1/18/2023
foundations through level 4 on 1/18/2023

Glazing Gets Going at Arthur on Aberdeen

Arthur on Aberdeen, the residential project at 210 North Aberdeen in the West Loop from LG Group, has grown by leaps and bounds since I last stopped by in August. I went by last week and found the first level of curtain wall almost complete. And you know how much I enjoy seeing the early signs of glass on a building. I figure it’s about time I posted some of those photos, eh?

Power Construction is on duty here as the general contractor. McHugh Concrete is handling masonry duties.

The NORR-designed apartment tower will boast 363 units across 19 stories.

Permits in hand, 4600 North Marine tears up a parking lot

The Weiss Hospital parking lot at Marine Drive and Wilson Avenue is gone. Toast. Rubble. History. Ground prep is underway after the first permits were issued early this month by the city for a new 12-story, 303-unit residential development here. The foundation permit came through on the first of the month. And no waiting on a tower crane permit; that was issued September 7.

1044 West Van Buren is Sage West Loop now. And it’s topped out.

Sage West Loop has topped out at 1044 West Van Buren.

Tandem announced in a LinkedIn post that they topped out 1044 West Van Buren last week. That same post also noted a name change: Sage West Loop is the West Loop’s newest new apartment project.

Sage West Loop will deliver 196 units across 18 stories with 78 parking spaces when completed in 2023. (Tandem’s website says the third quarter of 2023, but as quickly as they’ve reached final height, I wouldn’t be surprised to see tenants moving in much sooner than that.)
