CA Washington in the West Loop. Don’t look directly at it on a sunny day.

Normally, I advise you to take your construction photos on bright, sunny days. You may want to rethink that around CA Washington. It’s kinda bright.

The condominium development from Belgravia Realty Group has reached its ultimate height of six stories, some of which have been adorned in neon yellow. Personally, I’d like to see that color remain, but that doesn’t jibe with the renderings. A more impressive addition of late are the sweet balconies being hung from the sides of the 69 condos. Look nice? Well, if the “SOLD OUT” sign on the facade is accurate, you may have already missed your chance.

A design by Sullivan Goulette & Wilson, CA Washington is two buildings, with addresses at 27 North Aberdeen Street and 28 North Carpenter Street. It sits directly across Washington Boulevard from the new McDonald’s headquarters in the West Loop.

Look look south down Aberdeen Street past Lake Street reveals four new developments.

How busy are things in the West Loop? Look through the snowflakes in the above photo, taken January 26, and you’ll see four new projects lined up along Aberdeen Street.

They are, beginning in the foreground and working south:

165 North Aberdeen

An 11-story mixed-use building from MCZ Development, featuring 90 residential units, with 40,000 square feet of office space and 15,000 square feet of retail space.

McDonald’s Corporation Headquarters

Barley noticeable are the tops of caisson equipment. Sterling Bay is building a new HQ for the McDonald’s Corporation where Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Studios once stood. The 9-story, nearly 500,000-square-foot facility will have McDonald’s as its only tenant.

CA Washington

Look very closely beneath the elevated CTA tracks, and you’ll see the skeleton of CA Washington. Developed by Belgravia Realty Group, CA Washington brings six stories and 60 condos to the neighborhood.

1035 West Van Buren

Finally, way off in the distance you see the yellow forms and tower crane atop 1035 West Van Buren, a 30-story, 300-unit rental tower from Related Midwest.

All that iron work that keeps showing up in the background of McDonald’s construction photos? Yep, that’s CA Washington.

It can be difficult to get noticed in the West Loop these days, as developers buy up property and turn it over into new construction on seemingly every block. So one of the best ways to make waves to to erect a whole bunch of steel on a lot.

Enter CA Washington. CA Washington is one of the latest projects from Belgravia Realty Group. Belgravia is building 69 condominiums in a six-story structure designed by Sullivan Goullette & Wilson Architects. All condos will have three bedrooms and three baths, and  each will have its own private balcony, terrace, or roof deck, per Belgravia’s website. Maris Construction is the general contractor.

The 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom condominiums from Belgravia Realty Group have begun taking up residence at 27 North Aberdeen Street in the West Loop. CA Washington will have 69 condos within its six stories, with 78 indoor parking spaces.

Consider CA Washington as having three significant addresses. The foundation permit, issued June 17th, lists 27-39 North Aberdeen and 28-40 North Carpenter Street both as official addresses, a sentiment echoed on Belgravia’s website. In addition to that, CA Washington sits directly across Washington Boulevard from the former Harpo Studios (Oprahland, unofficially), and the future McDonald’s HQ. 

CA Washington is a design from Lewis Wilson of Sullivan, Goulette & Wilson. They’ve teamed with Belgravia before, including the under-construction Sedgwick at Locust at 367 West Locust Street in the Near North (the former site of Saint Dominic’s Church). The general contractor at CA Washington is Maris Construction.

Demolition Permit Signals Start of CA Washington

A demolition permit filed Monday for the auto repair garage at 1045 West Washington Boulevard in the West Loop signifies the first step in construction for the new CA Washington project.

CA Washington is the latest from Belgravia Realty Group. You’ve seen their work in progress from the Brown Line train on Sedgwick at Locust. This time, Belgravia is building 3-bed, 3-bath condos in the heart of the West Loop.

Oh, and have you heard who the neighbor will be across the street? Multiple reports say McDonald’s will make its new home in the former Harpo Studios on the other side of Washington Blvd. Hmm. I wonder if that will drive condo values up at all?
