A Visit to Milwaukee’s Northwestern Mutual Tower

Most people ask friends to bring back a refrigerator magnet as a memento of their travels. Me? I ask for construction photos. And maybe a mug.

So naturally, when my wife had to travel to Milwaukee for Summerfest, she knew I’d like nothing better than a couple photos of the new Northwestern Mutual Tower. With the help of a pair of familiar names, Hines as development manager and Solomon Cordwell Buenz as designers, Northwestern Mutual is erecting a 34-story residential tower. Floors 10-34 will be comprised of 308 1-,2-, and 3-bedroom apartments, floors 2-9 will hold 1,400 parking spaces, and the ground floor will be retail. Wisconsin’s own C.D. Smith Construction is handling the general contractor duties.

Since I, sadly, can’t walk to Milwaukee once a week to keep tabs on the progress, you can follow along for your own construction updates at:

the Northwestern Mutual Milwaukee Twitter account

the 777 North Van Buren Street website

or download the 777 North Van Buren fact sheet

Or go visit our neighbors to the north yourself. (Then send me photos.)

  1. I believe you may be confusing the two new Northwestern Mutual buildings. The building pictured above is the office building, and the mixed use building (777 North Van Buren) that you described is under its very beginning stages of construction. Can’t wait for it to start to go up!
